How I Created a New Identity as a Writer

Welcome to my Substack, where I share my thoughts, opinions and experiences on various topics that interest me. Today, I want to tell you the story behind my pseudonym: Sunhats and Chardonnay.

So here goes…drum roll please!
I like wine! I like traveling.
Why not combine the two?
In 2019, I wanted to create an blog website that contained both travel and lifestyle sections. Travel and destinations would be the priority but lifestyle and having a glass of wine would be the enjoyment. After many nights lying awake, the name “Sunhats and Chardonnay” came to me and had a magical ring to it. It was a nod to beach vacations and too many glasses of wine.
Since hatching this whimsical idea, my writing and content ideas have changed considerably. In December 2023, I started on Substack with the intent of writing for a more mature and sophisticated audience. I want to develop and expand my writing skills and one day write a book or two.
So what has changed besides the platform?
Yes, I still write travel content but I am focusing more on how the older person can enjoy the experience better.
I have also expanded to include topics relating to midlife matters; those being aging, retirement and mental health.
I WRITE FOR ME
Finally, when it all comes down to it, I WRITE FOR ME.
By writing under a pseudonym, I allow myself to be a better me and use my words more effectively. I feel like I am more in touch with my inner self by taking away my identity.
Some may find it strange, but for me, it works.

You may be wondering why I chose such a quirky and catchy name for myself. Well, let me explain as I take you behind the inspiration of my pseudonym and the significance it holds in my life.
