The Mad Hatter Hotel - London
An honest review of this quirky place to stay
If you are looking for a whimsical and charming place to stay in London, you might want to check out The Mad Hatter Hotel. This boutique hotel is inspired by the classic novel Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, and it offers a unique and delightful experience for its guests. From the moment you step through the doors, you're transported into a realm where imagination knows no bounds, where every corner is adorned with charming nods to the beloved tale.
On my recent trip to London, we searched for a place to stay that included breakfast and was close to the Underground and the attractions between the Thames River and Buckingham Palace. The Mad hatter ticked all the boxes.

Wonderful Location
Situated in the heart of London, this hotel is just a stone's throw away from iconic landmarks such as the London Eye, the Tate Modern, the Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and, the bustling South Bank. And with convenient access to public transportation links, including nearby Blackfriars and Southwark stations, navigating the city couldn't be easier. Whether you're a culture vulture eager to explore the city's vibrant arts scene or a history buff keen to delve into its rich heritage, you'll find endless opportunities for adventure within easy reach of the hotel.
Whimsical Room Decor
If you’re an avid fan of Alice in Wonderland, you will be thrilled to discover the intricate details woven throughout the hotel's decor. From the lobby adorned with an oversized clock and mural of Alice to the corridors lined with whimsical artwork depicting scenes from the story, every element exuded a sense of wonder and delight.
Aside from the charming reference to Alice, this hotel also gives a nod to its heritage. As the former mid-century hat factory “ Tress & Co,” its reference to hat making is also prominent in the decor.
Each of the 30 rooms is decorated with either themes or a comical combination. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with amenities such as free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, tea and coffee-making facilities, and en-suite bathrooms. And the in-room safe is large enough for a laptop.
Fabulous Food
One of the highlights of my stay at The Mad Hatter Hotel was undoubtedly the delightful breakfast spread offered each morning. The hotel serves a delicious and generous cold buffet every morning consisting of pastries, fruits, juices, cereals, and yogurt, and a variety of hot dishes, such as eggs, bacon, sausages and pancakes, waffles, and porridge that you can order from the menu.
The breakfast is served in the hotel's restaurant, also themed after Alice in Wonderland. You can enjoy your meal surrounded by quirky and colorful decorations, such as games, playing cards, clocks, and hats. The restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner, offering a range of British and international dishes, such as fish and chips, burgers, salads, pizzas, pies, and more. In the bar area, you can relax with a drink and try some of the hotel's signature drinks, such as the Mad Hatter's Tea Party, which is a mix of gin, lemon juice, elderflower liqueur, and champagne.
Professionalism and Hospitality
In addition to its charming theme, delicious breakfasts, and fantastic location, The Mad Hatter Hotel also excels in providing top-notch service that goes above and beyond to ensure a memorable stay for every guest. From the warm welcome extended upon arrival to the attentive assistance offered throughout my time at the hotel, I was consistently impressed by the professionalism and hospitality of the staff.
Whether I had a question about local attractions, wanted a recommendation for a nearby restaurant, or needed assistance with arranging transportation back to the airport, the staff was always on hand to help with a smile. Their dedication to providing exceptional service truly enhanced my experience at The Mad Hatter Hotel and left me feeling valued and well cared for throughout my stay. The night clerk even stayed open one hour longer for us as he knew we would arrive late.
