My prayers go to you and your family, Laura. You gave excellent advice at the end. My dad is on a waiting list for assisted living and this journey has been hard for the whole family. It's reassuring knowing there are positives to making that transition.
Thank you so much, Daniel. The next 3-4 months will be challenging with downsizing and moving my Mom. And now with the added complication of finding a different place for Dad. Spending 1-2 days per week in their community for the foreseeable future will be exhausting. On the plus side, I'm retired, so at least I don't have to worry about work.
Yes, at least you can create a schedule that matches your families'. My mom reminds me all the time to be thankful for all parts of my dad we still have! I hope it's a smooth transition for your dad and family Laura. I'll be thinking of you!
Moving parents into assisted living is hard. Also, I have to say I’m shocked your dad was charged with assault. What were they expecting with someone who needs assistance for walking and is super distressed? Can you appeal the change at this new home? Is there a connected memory care unit he can go into? Can you tell I am really feeling for you here?
Yes, we were shocked at the charge as well. And no, the home will not appeal or look the other way. They must regard the safety of others and if there is a record of assault, it is too risky.
Wow, Laura. What a long road your family has been on in the quest to get things right. I salute you, and your efforts, all done w/ love and hope for the best for your parents. I can't imagine all the struggles you all went through! so many. I'm glad things are moving in the right direction and it looks like blue skies ahead. Thanks for this heartfelt 'journal' of how it all came about. My older sis has memory issues, and our family could be seeing some similar instances in times to come. All the best to you.
But just as this scheduled post went out this morning, the situation changed again. Dad is no longer permitted where Mom is going. We are now scrambling to find a solution for him. I will need to update this post, or create a follow-up when more information is obtained. This is exhausting but I know that by sharing these struggles, I can help others who may be facing similar situations.
This is such a moving post, thank you for sharing. I've experienced similar lessons in recent months so I could strongly relate. Wishing you and your family all the best ❤️
Thank you so much. It has been challenging. And its not over yet. Plans have changed again as of yesterday. Now we are trying to adapt and fine new solutions. 😡💔
